10 Stocking Stuffers For Busy Toddlers {that aren’t JUNK!}

May 25, 2020 by Jenni Madsen Leave a Comment

The thing I love most about toddlers is that everything is brand new to them and they are so taken with the simplest things.

So, what to put in your toddlers stocking?

The answer isn’t complicated. Bright colors, fun things for little fingers to do or sensory play items are perfect for busy toddlers.

I’ve collected a range of super affordable stocking stuffers for toddlers of all kinds- I hope you can find something for yours 🙂

Stacking Cups

These stacking cups are a classic toy for toddlers and with good reason- bright, colorful and attractive! These are great for teaching counting and sizes.

Bathtub Crayons

This set of bathtub crayons also comes with fun fizzing color tablets. I LOVE giving my toddler bathtub crayons- she can draw on the bathtub walls to her hearts content and it’s a pretty easy clean up.

Baby Einstein Balancing Toy

This Baby Einstein wooden balancing toy is great for fine motor skills. It’s made with quality in mind. 3 of the pieces have musical chimes and there are different textures added to grab your toddlers interest.

Baby Einstein Wooden Pull Toy

Seriously, my 1.5 year old loves to drag her wooden pull toy around- huge source of entertainment for her! This particular Baby Einstein pull toy is an inch worm so it moves up and down with every step your toddler takes- this can be motivating for a child who’s learning to walk.

Giant Palm Grip Crayons

You really can’t understand the genius behind palm grip crayons until you have a toddler. Their pudgy hands just can’t quite grasp a crayon the right way yet- these are the perfect shape for a toddler to be able to grip and color easily.

Bath Bobbers

These bath bobbers are so cute– and they can’t sink! These are the perfect size for small hands to play with. Comes with a penguin and polar bear.

Play Doh

Truly, you can’t go wrong with play doh. So much imaginative play to be had! And also squishing and feeling- lots of squishing 🙂

Buster Square

This square is such a neat idea because we all know that toddlers are fascinated with buckles and buttons. This fabric square has all sorts of buckles, snaps and buttons to entertain a toddler for a long time!

FunKeys Toy

Okay, when I saw these toy car keys I burst out laughing. Whoever made this is a genius. My toddler is constantly finding my car keys and starting my car or hitting the alarm. This set of toy keys makes all sorts of noises and has a built in flash light too!

Talking Hamster

This talking hamster will repeat anything said- whether it’s gibberish, laughing or talking! I think most toddlers would get a kick out of this funny talking hamster.

Babsy Books

These books are made to teach your toddler about everyday things and are meant to be read and sung together. They’re very well made and sturdy- perfect for not so gentle toddlers. You can use the code TODDLERS1 for $40 off your order 🙂

I’m going to be honest with you- toddlers really don’t need much. They’re still little and happy with such simple things. Every year I end up laughing because my kids (all under 6) are usually more taken with a giant box or bag than whatever toys they get.

That being said, it’s always fun to find something exciting and you never know what the real winner will be each Christmas. Perhaps it will be one of these toys or perhaps it will be some bubble wrap haha. Either way, Merry Christmas ❤

Halloween Candy Alternatives

September 26, 2019 by Jenni Madsen Leave a Comment

Every year when the leaves change and the air gets that crisp autumn smell, I find my thoughts drifting towards pumpkin spice lattes, cozy scarves and Halloween.

If you’re anything like me, you’re also already having mini panic attacks at the thought of all the sugar your kids will consume.

There is an argument that is usually presented on these holidays in favor of ‘just letting them have some candy!‘

That’s fine, I agree it’s fun to let them have candy sometimes-

HOWEVER-

It is NOT just on these holidays that they are getting over loaded with sugar, dyes and chemicals. It seems to be more like every single day. It’s like our level for what is acceptable has been raised so high that it’s like meh, whatever in regards to Halloween candy.

Between my 3 children and huge family on both sides, we seem to going birthdays, BBQ’s, holidays and special events almost every. single. weekend.

Which makes for a huge influx of junk food all the time. So, why should you let your kids have free rein over a giant bag of candy that really should be enough to last two years just because it’s Halloween?

There is also a growing awareness for the “Teal Pumpkins”. Houses that display a teal pumpkin are letting the trick or treaters know that there is a non-food or allergen safe option for children with food allergies.

So because of this insane level of sugar/junk food all the time and the growing number of children with food allergies or special diets, I created this list of super fun, exciting things that any kid would be happy to get in place of candy.

These Halloween candy alternatives are fun, allergy friendly and good for all ages!

1. MINI PLAY-DOH

Mini Play-Doh is perfect for all ages, super fun and still exciting to get! These also work great for non-candy party favors ? The price is also extremely budget friendly! (Depending on how many trick or treaters you get.)

2. MINI GLIDER AIRPLANES

Fun for either sex, mini glider planes are an easy and fun thing for kids to get while trick or treating!

3. JUICE BOXES

Still pretty sugary but juice boxes are a bit healthier and definitely allergen safe!

4. BUBBLE WANDS

Bubble wands provide so much entertainment, are safe and completely allergen free.

5. MINI PUTTY

Mini putty is so much fun for kids!! My kids each got one of these one year and were PUMPED!

6. TINY KEYCHAINS

These emoji keychains are super cute and totally safe for kids of all ages.

7. STICKY HANDS

I’m guessing you had a sticky hand at some point in your childhood. They still haven’t lost their appeal!

8. TOOTHBRUSHES

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking- are you crazy?

Maybe. But honestly, this isn’t for the kids. This is for the parents! My kids each got a toothbrush last year and were excited to try out their new toothbrush on Halloween.

That’s a parenting win. So do the other parents a favor ?

9. APPLE CIDER PACKETS

This is such a cute idea! Especially if it’s cold where you live, so nice for the kids to have a warm and cozy drink for after trick or treating. Hot chocolate would work too!

10. FRUIT SNACKS

If you still want to give out something candy-ish, Annie’s organic fruit snacks have no artificial color or flavors added!

11. FRUIT LEATHER

Fruit leather is a great alternative to sugar and dye laden candy. It’s also completely nut free and good for any age.

12. SLAP BRACELETS

These things are always a major hit. Do you remember slap bracelets from elementary school? So much fun!

13. MINI SLINKIES

Everyone loves a slinky- you gotta have a slinky! Seriously, what kid doesn’t love a slinky? Especially these rainbow colored ones!

14. HALLOWEEN PARTY FAVORS

Check out this giant 156 piece Halloween party favor pack- cute Halloween themed stuff for all ages!

15. STRETCHY GLITTER SKELETONS

These always provide ample entertainment- what is it about squishy things that kids love?

***

I hope you found something useful on this list of Halloween Candy Alternatives! For all the kids with nut/dairy/any allergies and for all the parents who will seriously be thanking you all night- enjoy!

Christmas Gift Ideas For Kids (that are free)

August 17, 2019 by Jenni Madsen Leave a Comment

Here are some Christmas gift ideas for your kids this year that cost nothing- but will mean everything:

1. TIME

As much as kids want things and candy (they do), what they want even more but just don’t know how to say is-

to spend time with you, their parent, their hero.

They want to know that they are WORTH it, that you care about listening to them and that you love them.

A gift doesn’t say I love you like you actually looking into their eyes, hearing what they have to say and just being present with them.

Get down on their level, play games, play toys and give them attention while they still want yours.

2. TOBOGGANING TOGETHER

Bundle up and hit up a local hill to go sledding with your kids!

3. NO PHONES

We are trying to be a lot more careful as to how often we have our phones in our hands. I think if we could actually see ourselves, we might be appalled at how it looks from our kids eyes.

For Christmas, just turn them off. Lock them up if you have to.

And think about the rest of the year too ❤

4. BAKE COOKIES TOGETHER

This is so simple and so fun for kids. Make it a wonderful tradition to bake some cookies on Christmas Eve or Christmas day.

Smells and tastes make such a lasting impression in your memories. Fill your kitchen with the warm scents of Christmas cookies, the stickiness of sprinkles and icing and decorations.

Your kids will love to bake with you, regardless of how the cookies turn out!

Fill your children up with warmth and love ❤

4. TAKE TIME TO BE GRATEFUL

Talk about how much you love spending time with your kids, how lucky you are to all be there together. Talk about the less fortunate and keep things in perspective.

5. BUILD A SNOWMAN

Do you have memories of building a snowman with your parents when you were younger? I don’t know if it gets any better!

6. WATCHING A CHRISTMAS MOVIE TOGETHER

Really truly watch a Christmas movie together. Sip some cocoa, make some popcorn and snuggle up together on the couch.

My kids love to make a ‘nest’ on the floor with a million blankets and pillows. Make it fun and cuddly!

7. GO SKATING TOGETHER

Grab your skates and get out the door! It’s so fun to go out and move together. And then you can reap the rewards of steaming hot chocolate when you come back inside!

8. VOLUNTEER

This is a good one if your kids are a bit older. Spend some time at your local shelter, the animal rescue or soup kitchen. Teach your kids about giving back to the community.

This truly is a priceless gift to give your children. Not only are you making memories together, they will remember this and carry it forward for the rest of their lives.

Don’t save this just for Christmas time, this can be done throughout the year!

This list of free Christmas gifts for kids is meant to inspire you to take the focus off of the  material gifts. Of course, let your kids be kids and enjoy getting presents.

But focus on PRESENCE while they are still young enough to want your attention. The things listed here are far more valuable than any thing you could possibly buy your child!

Make memories, soak up all the beautiful moments and have a very Merry Christmas❤
